HONORING THE PAST
The geological library has been in existence since 1966, having been founded, owned and operated by the Oklahoma City Geological Society (OCGS). In late 2015, upon recommendation and affirmative vote by the Society’s Board of Directors and subsequently approved by a vote of Society membership, the assets of the library and the building in which it is housed, the OCGS Devon Geoscience Center were deeded over to a newly-formed, 501(c)(3) charitable entity, the Mid-Continent Geological Library, Inc. (MCGL). The MCGL applied for and was granted charitable status by the Internal Revenue Service in June, 2016. The library will forever remain the MCGL Devon Geoscience Center in tribute to a significant financial donation made to the OCGS by Devon Energy during the Society’s 2014 capital campaign to assist with acquisition of a building. Since that time the library has moved to Edmond and the building sold, thus financing the digital transformation of the library data.
EMBRACING THE FUTURE
MCGL is working diligently to transform to the digital age and is in the final stages of putting our assets online via website at https://mcglonline.com
The completion of this effort is close but we still have work to do. That’s where your tax-deductible donation can be of significance. Revenue does not cover all the IT costs to complete this task so we are actively seeking donations for this purpose.
What a great way for those who have used the library’s resources to be able to give back and help to further the future for the next generation!
Thank you!
